If you are excited to learn a new skill and make something unique and fabulous for your home, this is a wonderful opportunity to spend some creative time in a working studio. Learn the basics of screen printing on to fabric and be the proud maker of your very own printed lampshade.
Choose from either a one/two day workshop or explore more detailed designs and printing methods by taking up to five sessions over your chosen period of time.
If you have already attended a beginners course with Helen, the one day workshop is a great step up to making a finished product. The two day course will allow for more time to experiment and can be taken as a complete beginner. Both these sessions will involve printing with paper stencils with a view to developing a simple one or two colour design for your finished light shade.
You will also have access to any of Helen's patterns and textured screens to print with and there will be plenty of examples in the studio to inspire you along the way.
The price is per workshop and can be shared with a friend, partner or family member as a creative and fun time together. Otherwise you can choose to have expert one to one private tuition tailored to your needs. Either way, there will be lots of practical support and enough room on the print table to experiment and play.
Tea/coffee and biscuits provided but please bring a packed lunch.

If you would like to extend your skills and learn the photographic process of exposing a design on to screen, a four or five session course will allow you to create a more detailed/multi-layered design with time in between to develop your ideas further. Please note this is for weekday availability only.
The course can run daily, twice weekly or once a week depending on availability.
Example of Course Outline:
- Session One: Introduction and practical demonstration. Experimental printing with paper stencils, using various methods and sampling ideas onto fabric. Trying out colour combinations from the studio collection. Coating a screen to be exposed in the following session. Planning your artwork for the screen.
- Session Two: Mixing and testing colours. Exposing your artwork/design on to screen. Continue with sampling and start printing the first layers of your design.
- Session Three: Combining all techniques to continue work on your lampshade panel .
- Session Four/Five: Finalising your design/print and making up your lampshade. Tweaking and edge finishing of your shade may have to be completed at home with a demonstration and full instructions given in class. Alternatively you can choose to purchase an extra session.
This is just an example outline of the course as it will depend on the complexity of your design. Be prepared for a little bit of homework between each session to get the most out of your time at the studio.
Both the workshops and course include natural cotton drill fabric for sampling and final panel piece, screen printing inks and a 30cm lampshade kit, with the option to buy more if required.
